About us
An ordinary church family, from all over the world
We’re a church of Christ, about 50 of us, meeting at 95 Webb Street, Wellington. Some of us were born here; many of us came from far away and found family.

Where we’re from
We come from , and on Sundays we’re one whānau.
Just some of the places we call home. New ones join the family all the time.
What we believe
Just Christians, trying to follow the Bible
We’re a group of believers in Christ in Wellington, trying to work and worship together as a New Testament local church. We want to be a place where Christians can grow into the likeness of Jesus (Ephesians 4:16), and we share the good news of Christ with our friends, whānau and neighbours, so that they too can receive forgiveness of sins and the hope of eternal life (Acts 2:38–42).
Questions are always welcome. If there’s anything about what we do that you’d like explained, just ask.
The Bible is our guide
We read Scripture as God’s word and try to speak where the Bible speaks and stay quiet where it is silent (2 Timothy 3:16–17).
Jesus is Lord
Salvation is God’s gift through Jesus’ death and resurrection, received by faith and lived out in obedience (Ephesians 2:8–10).
Baptism
We baptise believers by immersion, as people were in the New Testament (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3–4). Happy to talk it through any time.
The Lord’s Supper every Sunday
The first Christians met on the first day of the week to break bread (Acts 20:7). So do we.
Singing without instruments
The New Testament asks us to sing to one another and to God (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). Every voice counts, so there’s no band to hide behind.
Each church stands on its own
We’re part of a worldwide family of churches of Christ, with no headquarters. We don’t have elders yet, so members look after this congregation together, in groups.
Our story
Our story in Wellington
We look to the New Testament for our faith and practice. Before Webb Street, our congregation met in Ghuznee Street.
- Before 1972
Meeting in Ghuznee Street
We were known as Central Church of Christ and met in Ghuznee Street. Our premises there were needed for motorway works.
- 1972
A home at Webb Street
The council approved the use of 95 Webb Street as a place of worship. The building became our congregation’s home.
- 2022
Fifty years at Webb Street
We marked fifty years at Webb Street with a congregation photo on the front steps.
- Today
Still meeting together
About 50 of us meet at 95 Webb Street, with members from many countries. We worship, study the Bible and look after one another.
Who looks after us
The work is shared
We don’t have elders yet, so members look after the church in small groups. Everyone pitches in somewhere.
Worship
Plans Sunday worship: who leads singing, who preaches, who serves the Lord’s Supper.
Training & Education
Looks after Bible teaching for every age, from the children’s classes to adult studies and camps.
Pastoral Care
Keeps an eye out for one another: visits, meals, a hand when life gets hard.
External Outreach
Takes the good news beyond Webb Street, through Bible studies, outreach and serving the neighbourhood.
Building & Maintenance
Keeps the hall warm, dry and ready, inside and out. Working bees welcome all hands.
Communications
The newsletter, this website and the church’s social media.
Finance
Looks after the church’s money, insurance and charity obligations.
Members can see who serves in each group, and when, in the members area.
